The Early Days
2010 – The studio building is erected and the interior plans are completed, thanks to the late, John Sayers.
2011 to 2018 – Construction work for the interior, including isolated rooms for each of the functional areas, sound proofing and acoustic design. Signal wiring, equipment installation and construction of the control room facility. Electrical fit out and air conditioning installed by Gilbert Valley Electrical, many thanks to Giles Heelis, https://www.gilbertvalleyelectrical.com
2019 saw some early work in the studio with Dave Hall, Andrew Allanson, Sally Brock, John Duffy and Ron Vanderswan, but this was a stressful and frustrating experience for all involved as I struggled with the new software and hardware. It did however, result in my spending a lot of time learning how not to replicate this experience.
2020, will be remembered as the year of the pandemic, but in Stockport Studio, it was the year that we started to see the results of my labours. As I have said a number of times, this was a one year project that I have been working on for ten years.

30 December 2025 – Jamie and Sarah continued working on their song, moving to Take 3.

14 November 2025 – Craig, Lisa and Bob, rehearsal, for Ulster Park Wines,Auburn, on Sunday afternoon.

28 September 2025 – Installed new tweeters in both of the Alesis Monitor 2s. The sound is now balanced.
27 September 2025 – Bob, Lisa, Sarah and Craig in the studio for rehearsal.
17 September 2025 – I changed the door handle locks on the rear store and the vocal booth as they were becoming unreliable. I installed a new dual graphic equaliser, a Behringer FBQ, in place of the old one which was not working properly. I then found the issue I’ve been having with unbalanced sound turns out to be the left Monitor 2 tweeter is open circuit. I have ordered replacements for both sides. This probably means that the studio is offline for a week or so, until the new tweeters arrive.
16 September 202 – The studio has been very quiet for a while, but today I did some work on Laura Lea, and sorted out some issues in the studio. It seems the Graphic EQ has some issues, I’ll have to try another one, probably from the live rig, since I don’t use that any more.
26 July 2025 – Barrie and Bob recording various options for guitar parts in The Heart Is Where The Home Is.
25 July 2025 – Bob, Lisa and Craig rehearsing in the studio.
20 July 2025 – Fitted locking handle to Vocal Booth. Set up ART Pro Audio Pro MPA II Two Channel Mic Preamp for the 77 and 44.
11 July 2025 – Bob, Craig and Lisa in the studio rehearsing, sounding tighter on the five songs we have been working on.
20 June 2025 – Terry and Kathy Salter visited, and had a look around the studio. We had a look at a couple of videos that Terry had recorded, and I showed them some of the work we have been doing.
15 June 2025 – Bob and Barrie in the studio, whilst Sarah and Jamie wrote and recorded a song, Take Two. More to come on this one, they worked really well together.
13 June 2025 – Bob, Lisa and Craig in the studio for rehearsal, Brenton was supposed to be here but got called in to work at the last moment.
16 May 2025 – Bob, Lisa and Craig in the studio rehearsing the songs for an open mic night.
02 May 2025 – Craig, Lisa, Bob and Brenton Chappel in the studio, rehearsing songs for open mic, Brenton may be interested in playing drums, he will be back in a month, so I will set up the drums in the main room.
20 April 2025 – Bob mixed, mastered and burned six CDs of Ben McCall and friends, Going to the Valley.
16 April 2025 – Burned 25 of Hard Pressed CDs and delivered to Lynda. Spoke to Barrie about a second CD.
06 April 2025 – spoke to Mick Kidd & Dave Blight about recording session, organised by Marty Jones, expected to be around end of May.

23 March 2025 – Second run of 25 Hard Pressed CDs for Lynda

05 March 2025 – Mixed and mastered Trust, to add to the Hard Pressed CD, second edition, edited the cover to include this as track 3. Burned two copies, one for me and one to go to Triple B FM, in Nuriootpa. Di delivered it this afternoon. I will produce 25 more copies for Lynda when new stock of discs and cartridge card arrive.
04 March 2025 – Two tracks from the Hard Pressed CD played on PBA FM radio station.
02 March 2025 – Hard Pressed CD Launch at the Prince Albert Hotel, Gawler, SA.
01 March 2025 – Barrie, Lynda and Bob in the studio, mixed and mastered the tracks for the Hard Pressed CD. After Barrie and Lynda left I burned the CDs (25), then printed the discs and packaged them up for the launch tomorrow at the Prince Albert Hotel, Gawler.
28 February 2025 – Bob cut and fitted the 25 brochures and back covers for the Hard Pressed CD, then prepared the 13 tracks for mix down and mastering with Barrie on Saturday. In the evening Lisa, Craig and I rehearsed.
27 February 2025 – Bob set up and printed the brochures and back covers for 25 copies of the Hard Pressed CD, using photos and graphics supplied by Lynda.
13 February 2025 – Tony, Samantha, Steve, Robert and Bob in the studio, showing Steve and Samantha the work we have done with Tony’s songs.
14 February 2025 – Bob, Craig and Lisa in the studio rehearsing.

2024
19 December 2024 – Bob, Tony and Sarah in the studio for Sarah to record backing vocals on “I Shot the Sheriff”. Sarah double tracked the vocal then did both a high and a low harmony vocal. The results were excellent, she has a great voice. Everyone concerned was very pleased with the results.
13 December 2024 – I got the piano track from Robert and put it on the Burra Burra Strike, song.
12 December 2024 – Tony, Darrell Press and Bob in the studio, recorded Tony’s vocal for Camp Ground.
29 November 2024 – Barrie and Bob in the studio to add guitar to You Think It Will Last Forever

Reviewed Roberts song Moonlight, and the effect of mastering. Maybe the basis for a full band recording. The three of us agreed that this year we should start recording some of our own songs.

17 September 2022 – Dave Gilbey, Dave Oates, John Mason and Bob in the studio to record some Shadows tracks, with Sarah on the desk, and Lucy and Helen watching. We did Shadoogie, Sleep Walk and The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt, but the results are not up to the standard we had hoped, we may try recording instruments individually, as we did a lot of flawed tracks where only one of us made a mistake. This is a problem with ‘Live” recording. (See 07 October 2022)
15 September 2022 – Tony and Bob in the studio, reviewed the TMCB track and Tony replaced the lead guitar on I Got My Mojo Working.
08 September 2022 – Bob, Robert and Tony in the studio, put down some keyboard on Would I Lie to You.
01 September 2022 – Tony and Bob in the studio, Tony did some lead guitar on Would I Lie to You.
23 August 2022 – I found an old two track tape of the Backliners and patched the Analogue desk into the Digital desk then made a copy in Reaper and then prepared a CD. Three copies of the CD were burnt for the three remaining members of the Backliners. In the process I found and fixed the issue with channel 4 on the Analogue desk.
20 August 2022 – I started again on I Would Not Lie to You, with a different drum pattern (Train 300C), and put down Bass, two guitars and two vocal tracks.
18 August 2022 – Tony and Bob started tracking for I Would Not Lie to You.
11 August 2022 – Tony and Bob recorded vocals for Miss You, changed the key to A (from G).
04 August 2022 – Bob and Tony did drum programming, two guitar tracks and bass track for Miss You (Clapton).
28 July 2022 – Sam, Tony, Robert and Bob did initial tracking for Baker Street, however, it may be better to start again.
21 July 2022 – Tony and Bob in the studio, remixing I Shall Be Released and She’s Waiting. Visit from Rob Hibbard.
16 Jun 2022 – Tony, Sam and Bob, mixing and mastering, copy some tracks for Sam.
26 May 2022 – Bob and Tony mixing and mastering.

05 May 2022 – Sam, Tony and Bob, Sam recording vocals on In the Midnight Hour and sax part for I Shall Be Released. Did some minor adjustments for remixing. Corrected Tony’s guitar part on Hide Me (TMCB).
03 May 2022 – Ben McCall doing overdubs of keyboard parts and his vocals for TMCB CD. Tony called in at lunchtime.
28 Apr 2022 – Tony, Sam and Bob, recording sax parts for Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out. Put sax parts in Hell to Pay, but Sam wasn’t happy, we’ll have to revisit it.
21 Apr 2022 – Tony and Bob working on Hell to Pay and Deep Dark Dungeon.

09 Dec 2021 – Studio with Tony and Sam.
07 Dec 2021 – In the studio and on location, with Michelle Bieniasz, James and Stu to film video for Michelle’s song, Morning Dew
02 Dec 2021 – Finalising mastering of Dementia Daddies recordings. Later, in the studio with Jo hall, James and Stu to record vocals for Far Away Girl and shoot some video.
25 Nov 2021 – In the studio with Tony and Sam, mastering the first of the Dementia Daddies recordings.
18 November 2021 – In the morning met with Michael West and James Stewart Rattray, to discuss Michaels recording and potential for remix and mastering by James. Rendered the stems of Far Away Girl for James to master. In the afternoon, Tony and I re-recorded the vocals for Something Special. In the evening, with Tony, Sarah and Ann and Mel from Little Black Dress, did backing vocals for Got You On My Mind, In the Midnight Hour and Mainline Florida. A busy but rewarding day.
14 Nov 2021 – In the studio with Tony, re-recording the vocal for Sensitive Kind.
13 Nov 2021 – Another full day in the studio with Hard Pressed, Barrie, Lynda, Mel, Bruce and Peter. The results were the first tracking session of about a dozen songs, not a bad effort in two days. Great fun and a really great bunch of folks to work with and make music.
12 Nov 2021 – In the studio with Barrie, Lynda, Mel, Bruce and Peter to record some original songs written by Barrie and Lynda.
04 November 2021 – Tony, Sam and Bob, remixed and mastered Nashville Skyline Rag and Sea Cruise.
14 October 2021 – Sam, Tony, Robert and Bob continued with the mixing and mastering, using AAMS, songs included Hey Baby, Help Me, Rita Mae, and Peggy Day.
07 October 2021 – Tony, Sam, Greg and Bob, Greg recorded the guitar solo for She’s Waiting. We then mixed and mastered Bringing It Back and Clyde.
30 September 2021 – Tony, Sam, Robert and Bob started mix downs and mastering, using AAMS, on songs from Dementia Daddies recordings.
18 September 2021 – Tony, Sam, Robert, Greg and Bob in the studio. Put down keys and sax tracks on She’s Waiting.
09 September 2021 – Tony and Bob laid down the drums, bass, guitar and guide vocal for She’s Waiting. We did a mix of the songs for Little Black Dress backing vocals for Tony to rehearse with them.
04 September 2021 – In the studio with Patrick Burgess recording his original composition, In the Stars.
02 September 2021 – Tony, Robert, Sam and Greg, a friend of Tony’s, in the studio. Sam did sax, Robert did keys, Greg did guitar and Tony double tracked the vocal on Mainline Florida. Loaded the backing track for Drift Away, for Robert.
26 August 2021 – Tony, Robert and Bob in the studio. Robert put keyboard Baritone Sax and keyboard Brass on In the Midnight Hour. Tony put down guide vocals for Mainline Florida , Bob did the drum programming and played the bass track.
24 August 2021 – James and Bob in the studio experimenting with James’ equipment to establish that the studio can be interfaced with it, if required, in the future.
12 August 2021 – Tony and Bob worked on guitar parts for Help Me, then did some mastering on it to complete the recording. Bob then did a mix down and master on Faraway Girl, using AAMS.
05 August 2021 – Bob, Tony and Robert in the studio. Robert did keyboard parts for Far Away Girl, and Isn’t It a Pity. Tony did new guitar part for Isn’t It a Pity. Bob did bass part and Robert did keyboards for Big Mistake.

29 July 2021 – Tony, Tim James and Bob in the studio. Recorded guitar and Tony’s vocal for Isn’t It a Pity. Tony did the lead guitar and Tim did the harmonica part for Far Away Girl, hopefully Robert can do the Hammond Organ part next week.

15 July 2021 – Sam, Robert, Tony and Bob in the studio with Hugh Gordon, to record violin and viola parts for Nashville Skyline Rag, Peggy Day and Crazy.
08 July 2021 – Sam, Tony and Bob in the studio, we spent a lot of time getting some mixes of the DD and W songs for Sam to take home. Then Tony re-recorded the lead guitar part on Old Rock and Roller.

27 May 2021 – Tony, Sam, Robert and I, in the studio. Robert did the keyboard parts for Got You on My Mind and Call It the Blues. It’s getting to the time when we need to start the mixdown of these songs.
19 May 2021 – The Launch of “Sitting on the Edge of the World” at Port Pirie, with Stu, James and myself. Georga and Charlotte, did a short live performance, PA and lights supplied by Stockport Sound. Sarah Cheesmur, Glen Christie and Simon Millcock were all there, representing the Port Pirie Council and Legatus and the Minister for Innovation and Skills, The Hon. David Pisoni, MP, representing the State Government The video was well received by all and has established that we, the Howling Blue conglomerate of Stockport Sound Studio, Desert Dogs Studio and Blue Goanna Video Productions, can produce global quality music videos right here in the Mid-North, well actually the Clare and Gilbert Valleys, of South Australia. 13 May 2021 – Robert, Sam, Tony and I spent the afternoon putting piano and sax parts on Sporting Life Blues and guitar solo on Can’t Hold Out. We then did some remixing on Sea Cruise and tidied up the end.
04 May 2021 – Barrie, Mel and Lynda from Hard Pressed, along with Marijan, in the studio to re-record You Only Get One Chance, and lay down bed tracks for Dragonfly.
29 April 2021 – Robert, Sam, Tony and I spent the afternoon laying down keyboard and piano tracks on Fannie May, Help Me, and Baker Street.
22 April 2021 – First attempt at the lead guitar for Wonderful Land, not successful. Tony, Sam and I spent the afternoon reviewing the state of current recordings and made a ‘to do’ list
20 April 2021 – Recoding session with Hard Pressed, Barrie, Mel and Lynda. Put down basic tracks for three more songs.
15 April 2021 – Tony , Sam Robert and I, finished the intro and mixing of Going Home, posted to Recordings page.
01 April 2021 – Tony, Robert and I in the studio putting down the keyboard tracks on Sporting Life Blues, Got You On My Mind, Old Rock and Roller, Sensitive Kind and Something Special, plus a lead guitar track on Sporting Life Blues. Later I installed the free version of AAMS ( Automated Audio Mastering System) and gave it a short test, seems good, I may have to invest in the Pro Version.
24 March 2021 – Sam, Tony and I reviewed some of our earlier work, then, recorded sax and guitar solos for Can’t Hold On and Sporting Life Blues. I need to arrange Tim James to do harp solos on Sporting Life Blues and Got You On My Mind.
18 March 2021 – Recording session for Hard Pressed, Lynda, Mel and Barrie, with Marijan keeping me company in the control room. We recorded the basics for three songs, Trust, Space Waster and Deception.
11 March 2021 – Tony, Sam, Robert and I had a run through some old songs, no recording, but a great afternoon.
05 March 2021 – Received a copy of the final mix of Morning Dew, by Michelle Bieniasz, from James. Post production was done at Desert Dogs in Auburn, SA (see link). Have a listen in the ‘Recordings’ area.
04 March 2021 – Sam, Tony and I went through all of our recordings to identify what needs to be done to each one to finalise the tracking.
25 February 2021 – Tony, Robert, Sam and I worked on songs for the future, no recording, but a great afternoon.
18 February 2021 – Tony, Sam and Bob worked on ‘Old Rock and Roller’.
14 February 2021 – Sent the Final Normalised Stems of Edge of the World, to James.
13 February 2021 – Charlotte, Georga, James and myself, recording vocals, and harmonies for Edge of the World. That finishes my involvement with this as the tracking is now completed. I hope that the girls are happy with our work and their time in my studio, they certainly have the talent to take this places. I hope they return with more great songs.
11 February 2021 – Tony, Sam and myself, in the studio putting down tracks for Old Rock and Roller.
04 February 2021 – Robert, Sam, Tony and myself, doing keyboard dubs on several DD and W songs. We’re getting close to completion of the tracking on some of these, so we need to start the mixdown.

21 January 2021 – In the studio with Tony Luke, Robert Parker and Lynda Press, put down some piano tracks on the DD and W songs.
20 January 2021 – James and Barrie with Enrico ‘Mick’ Morena, in the studio to lay down the drums, bass and guitar for Edge of the World.
14 January 2021 – Initial pre-production meeting with James Stewart-Rattray and Stu Nankivel for recording of “On the Edge of the World”, by Charlotte Morten and Georga Harris. Both performers plus Charlotte’s Dad, Paul, and Barrie Hocking (Guitar) were involved in discussions then recording of some initial takes to firm up the format of the song. Sarah Cheesmur, from the Legatus Group, attended and gave me some background on the song and the performers. A very productive evening, resulting in a booking for recording tracks on Wednesday, 20 January 2021.
09 January 2021 – First session for 2021, with AP and the Captain Kidd Band. A great afternoon that resulted in rough drafts of 6 or 7 songs. This is starting to look like a good year, I hope, 🙂

Stu Nankivel, from Blue Goanna, filmed the session and interviews for the upcoming documentary. Later in the evening recording with Tony, Sam, and myself. Tony put down the base tracks for Bring It On Back.
